Wh-what. Guys. YER DOIN' IT WRAWNG. Suki got involved where she had no business, could have been pretty much written out of the finale, and had little character outside of "the girl Sokka's doing it with." And while usually I'm okay with that, she was also made out to have a much more massive part than she actually did. All she did was stand around awkwardly during dialogue. D:

Well yeahhh, but that particular moment would have been the easiest thing in the world to change? And would have allowed a bit more limelight for two characters we've spent the entire series with?

To be honest, I wouldn't say I dislike Suki. Not by any means. But I'm more or less with copper_pentacle, she's pretty expendable and flat. She was only one step up from when Haru and co. were tagging along in terms of awkwardness, and her character was about as well defined as their's besides. >: imo.

I won't argue with "could've used more development" but I wouldn't say she was entirely flat and boring. I agree with justaminuet that she was meant to be the relatively normal one: We have Aang with his survivor guilt and hero angst, Sokka with his invasion and Yue guilt and occasional bender envy, Katara's mother hen complex, Toph's parental issues, and the less said about Zuko the better. (Note that I don't mean ZOMG ANGST AND ISSUES ARE BAD here, just that Suki was kinda a breath of fresh air)

Not literally. But Bryke could have just as well thrown Toph and Sokka against the fleet and had them take it out and the result would have been just about the same. Katara and Zuko had demons to take down with Azula and their own relationship, Aang had to defeat Ozai, Sokka had to... go be a leader or something, and Toph had to Metalbend to assist him, because it really was impossible for the airships to be taken down without it. It seems (to me, anyway) like they did that just to give Suki something to do. Suki was grudgingly okay as a minor/secondary character, but putting her in as part of the Gaang was too much of a stretch, especially when compared to all of the others, whose characters are so fleshed out.

I don't think whether or not she was 100% super-necessary matters, she was a friend of the main cast and that was reason enough for her to be there. Not every member of a show's main cast has to be there because there's a dire need for it.

I saw some icon or something with a picture of Team Avatar sitting on Appa with the caption "we are more than just a team," and Suki was in it and it just felt...wrong somehow.

After Sokka rescued her from prison where was she suppose to go? She didn't know where her warriors where and she wanted to help with the fight against the fire nation. The Gaang could use all the help they could get when it's a couple of kids facing the entire fire nation.
