from the Alt National Parks people

Wondering what it looks like to test and normalize martial law? Just read Trump’s executive order titled “Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens.” Sounds great, right? Protect the innocent. But it’s a terrifying document. It empowers local law enforcement to use aggressive, unchecked tactics and when they cross the line, the big law firms that caved to political pressure will represent them pro bono.
You might wonder what those tactics include. Let’s help you out, these are the kinds of strategies already being used or encouraged:
- No-knock raids: Military-style forced entries into homes, often at night, without warning, even for minor offenses.
- Expanded surveillance: Loosened restrictions on monitoring protests, online activity, and private gatherings, often without warrants.
- Deployment of federal agents in cities: Unmarked officers detaining protestors with no local oversight, as seen during the Portland crackdowns.
- Qualified immunity protections: Strengthening legal shields that make it nearly impossible to hold officers accountable in court.
- Mass arrests and curfews: Blanket curfews and preemptive detentions during public demonstrations.
- Militarization of local police: Encouraging departments to arm up with military-grade weapons, drones, and armored vehicles.
- Pro bono legal defense: Politically aligned law firms stepping in to defend officers accused of misconduct, at no cost.
- Suppression of dissent: Labeling protestors as “domestic threats” to justify crackdowns on speech, assembly, and press.
Now, these tactics aren’t just hypothetical. They’re not “going to be” used, they already have been. Trump sent federal agents in unmarked vans to snatch protesters off the streets in Portland. He’s deployed military-style force to clear peaceful demonstrators, expanded surveillance during protests, empowered ICE to enter homes without warrants, and just signed an order ensuring cops accused of brutality get free legal help from major firms. This isn’t a warning it’s a description.

If only there'd been some kind of warning, say, some very detailed fascist handbook that could have been circulating the internet for a couple of years leading up to the election, with tens of millions of people pointing to it and going "DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE CHOOSE THIS AMERICA"

Ah, that would've been nice. /s

I really feel like the average American doesn't care and conveniently forgot everything that happened in Trump's first term. I find it hard to care anymore. Let what most of the country get what they voted for. *shrug*

DA - my brother in law and I were just talking about this. We are beyond caring and at this point want Trump to go all in and burn the country to the ground to give the idiots exactly what they asked for.

Obviously not a healthy way of thinking, but we are burnt he fuck out and frustrated.

The one thing that helps me sleep at night is the majority of people who voted for him are dealing with the fallout. All the layoffs, groceries and gas being more expensive, tariffs, farmers losing their workers because they exploit the undocumented immigrants they voted to exploit, etc. I live in a super red state and the amount of MAGA merch has trickled down to seeing one elderly person wearing a hat in the last few months. Whatever. I lived through Bush's second term which was the worst time period of my life, I don't think things can get worse for me than that.

Not to mention Trump is in awful shape. I was watching his 2016 and 2024 debates and he's going through the same cognitive decline Biden is. He was screaming and shouting instead of constructing an argument like previous more respectable Republicans in past debates. His hands were covered in bruises in a recent photo. Despite the scaremongering about a third term I doubt he'll even make it past 80.

I understand being burned out and frustrated. But know that a LOT of people are fighting. Every day. All over. From boycotting (have you LOOKED at Target's and Tesla's stock value lately? Serves the fuckers right) to protesting (contrary to what legacy media would have everyone believe, millions of folks turned out on April 5 and April 19, and continue planning for more protests on May 3 and beyond), to even DEMOCRATS (well, not the fucking establishment sellout twats) actually listening to their constituents... four Democrat congress folks even went to El Salvador for Abrego Garcia. Obviously, they weren't able to free him but the point is they were willing to actually try. And then there's Bernie and AOC on their fighting oligarchy tour, turning out crowds of over 30,000 (in some cases) in deep red areas.

Unfortunately, we are in for the long haul. I sure as fuck don't want to lose any more of my years to this narcissistic piece of shit and his fascist regime. So I keep looking every day not just for signs of hope, but for things I actually do to help unfuck the country. I'm seriously considering the best way I can contribute when it comes time for a general strike.

But I get it. It's probably easier to give up, sure. But that leads to subjugation, to no freedom, to that fear that every day you're going to piss off the wrong person who has the power to make you regret it... when they're not busy neglecting your community's needs. That's not a place I want to be. And instead of seeing the country to the ground, it'd be far more satisfying to see a fascist regime toppled. There is a way to speed it up, but more people need to turn out and get engaged with things (including behind the scenes).

Personally I'm in the "I don't care, this is what people voted for" camp and I'm not giving up, I just have prioritized my job and family instead of coddling the people getting what they voted for and posting 24/7 doomer bullcrap. I've participated in boycotts and will be paying attention to midterms, I don't think this is the end of the world when we've gone through this before.

(Anonymous) 2025-04-30 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've been going to protests, joining boycotts, and trying my damndest since 2000 when I could first legally vote. I am still doing all that, but I'm tired. None of it seems to matter. I love your optimism but I just dont have it anymore. I'll contine ton do what I can but I just don't think it will make a damn bit of difference.

And honestly, fuck Bernie and AOC at this point. They are part of the problem. They are great at riling up a crowd after the fact but not so great at doing it when it mattered and getting behind the candidates that could have stopped this.

I firmly believe if legacy media had just played a year's worth of news reels from 2020, leading up to Jan 6 2021, instead of licking Trump's boots for ratings, people might have remembered the shit he did.

I don't know if it would've been enough to make people get over their misogyny and racism and egos, but maybe more folks would've turned out.

(Anonymous) 2025-04-30 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. The media have played a huge role in letting/making this happen.

(Anonymous) 2025-04-30 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
This has been coming since Sept 12th 2001, in fact the only surprising thing is that has taken so long for this train to arrive. You've had two damn decades to put your house in order or get comfortable with Fascism. It is too late to be complaining now.
