Do you feel old?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-01 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
What made you feel old for the first time? For me, it was realizing that I no longer needed to engage in strenuous physical activity to get all sore. Now it's just... sleeping in the wrong position and I wake up with my back in knots.

Never. It is always a shock to me when I realise how old I am.

In many ways, I feel like I did when I was eighteen-twenty three range.

Mentally, I don't feel old. It's my body's physical limitations and health issues that remind me that I'm not in my twenties anymore.

I'm just under 30, so I'm starting to get to a point where I'm older than coworkers and there are a lot of adults younger than me now. That is weird to go through. In other ways though I feel like I'm realizing how young I am, I felt so grown up and mature at 20, but I'm realizing now that I gained a lot of perspective in the last decade and I just don't have the same knowledge or experience that my older friends do. Not that younger people aren't smart, and their perspective on things is really interesting, just in a different place.

On a less philosophical note, it does make me feel older when my injuries add up and I get little new health problems.

I felt this way in my 30s. I felt so mature and "grown up" in my 20s as Ingraduated college and started my "real" job and then I hit my thirties and its like a whole new perspective shift. Now I'm in my 40s and I kind of laugh at the idea of 22yo me being in charge and the "adult" of a situation.

I need to actually stretch before activities or I'll pull something. I know you're always supposed to donthat but I've always just jumoed in and been fine. Now I need stretches and to ease into things.

I also need to actively exercise whereas before I just was in shaoe and couod jump into a pick up game or hike or whatever. I haven't changed anything ekse and yet here I go losing muscle mass and elasticity as my body falls apart.

Mentally, hanging out with middle schoolers 😆

One of the first times I felt old was when Timothy Chalemet became the It Boy back in the late 2010s and/or the early 2020s and I had no interest in him or even knew what project(s) he did that catapulted him to the spotlight.
He looked like a kid that I knew my younger relatives would find attractive.

Also witnessing teenagers in 2020/2021 fangirl over Draco Malfoy and thinking, "wow that was me in 2002".

Also, whenever I get sick or I get an injury, I notice how much longer it takes for me to recover, it makes me realize how good my body had been to me in my 20s and early 30s.

I don't really feel old. Yes, there are always new ways of my body decaying. Yes, I work with people born in 00s. Yes, people my age keep getting wrinkles (I do too, but I do not really care about it). I feel tired though, but that is a constant

I've always been tired (I actually have a memory of the one morning I woke up and was actually ready to get up and do things). Once I got into my late 30s, I started injuring myself doing normal things and it's taking longer to recover (I injured my knee last year and I'm still having issues going down stairs). I still would rather play video games and read books and watch tv and I hate doing paperwork and I still think most adults are stupid, so none of that has changed.

Some day, yes, I do. Other days, no, I don’t. What’s scary is when celebrities near my age start dying. Val Kilmer was a shock. He was only a few years older than I am.
