This does seem to happen more with same sex ships. But it also does happen with het ships too where the characters are friends in canon. And I get that it is nice to have just straight up friendships. But it is also nice to have friends who fall in love.

That being said, to each their own. If people prefer characters as friends, that's cool.

It’s a little funny to me that you put it down to the makeup and eyeliner. I’m always impressed by how good actors can change their whole bearing just by adjusting their expression and posture. (Though makeup and costuming can obviously help a lot.)

I used to feel that way, until I fell in love, hard... I'm talking a love similar to how I felt about one of my actual exes. I have low self esteem IRL and used to be exclusively canon/canon shipper, but for a period I realized it'd be unhealther if I denied my feelings, so I allowed myself to selfship in private this one time.
