I just always think it's really strange how they do relationships in movies/shows with anthropomorphic animals. Like, are interspecies relationships common and accepted/normal or are they kinda like same-sex relationships in-universe (as in, met with prejudice and can't biologically have kids with each other etc.)? A lot of these types of media sort of tiptoe around the issue and don't really commit one way or the other and that leads to wonky worldbuilding.

See, I absolutely ship Nick and Judy, but I feel you on principle-- SO many things would be better if TPTB didn't try to force a man and a woman with zero romantic chemistry into a relationship just because hetero/amatonormativity is a hell of a drug.

Honestly, I probably ship Nick and Judy BECAUSE Zootopia didn't put them in a romantic relationship-- I tend to enjoy m/f ships where the characters are platonic friends in canon SO much more than the ones where I can tell they're supposed to be romantic. (granted, sometimes those characters DO become canon romantic down the line, Mulder and Scully being the prime example, but like... the thing that attracts me is the foundation of friendship rather than the standard 'will-they-won't-they' that hinges on 'they're a man and a woman and they're both attractive enough to be on screen'). I mean, that's why I ship m/m or f/f ships, after all-- because I'm presented with a strong case for how/why these characters get along, instead of being presented with romance plot beats and the expectation that a man and a woman will get together.

I think Nick and Judy would be cute together in a different way than they are now but I’d prefer they don’t become a canon ship in the sequel. But I’m not in the fandom and I have no intention of watching the sequel so my opinion is even more meaningless than the average anon’s. Zootopia was fun and funny and told a complete, satisfying story. I’ve learned my lesson not to engage with the sequels of movies/shows/games like that because it always ends up hurting my fondness for the original.

I ship it, but I too hope they don't go there. I would have more fun in the fandom space if there was maybe wink or a nudge towards them having romantic feelings for each other, but making them canon would bore me.

I think they make a cute couple! I wouldn't say I ship them or don't ship them though. Platonic or romantic would both be fine with me.

See, I really liked them as a team because I didn't get any romantic/sexual tension between them.

I get that fans just naturally ship characters together (especially leads), but just because the fans want it doesn't mean it makes sense.

TBH It reminds me of when you're kids and your friends keep insisting you and a friend (usually of the opposite sex) date. Even if you (me) don't see your friend in any romantic light.
The fact that it happened to both my younger sister and teenage niece that they vented to me about it without me even bringing the topic up or telling them my own stories, this seems common.
Please stop trying to force romantic heteronormativity onto everything y'all.

I'm okay either way, but it does make sense to me that the sequel to a movie about racism would make an interracial romantic relationship the focus.

When I do this (get really into fandom without watching the thing), at a certain point it's because I'm scared it won't live up to my expectations. 😅 I'm having fun with what I've found, though! If watching the source material is going to stress me out or let me down, I'll dance around it for as long as possible.

Yeah, they are only enjoyable when the streamer is using it to add their own thoughts, but I don't get the appeal of streamers that "react" but then add nothing to it.
