Have you ever played a narrative game all the way through more than once?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-12 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
What game? Games like Fortnite or World of Warcraft don't count.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by narrative games but...

I've played the original Guild Wars through several times.

As soon as I finished my first play of Dragon Age inquisition I immediately went and made a new character to replay with different choices.

I've replayed Zelda OoT several times.

I've started replays on AC Origins and Odyssey but never made it all the way through.

I usually don't like replaying long games because I always lose interest halfway through. Some exceptions :
Dragon Age 2 (played the same character again because I wanted to prepare for Inquisition with all the choices I preferred)

Baldur's Gate 3 (one regular run and one Dark Urge and they were so different I only got a little bored halfway through)

Okami (I just love that game and I'm a completionist)

Journey (kind of narrative, I'd say and it's very short and meditative)

I've only replayed two games in my life, Bioshock and Ocarina of Time.

Ocarina of Time was just so damn good. I don't know if it was just my age or hit just at the right time, but that is still the high I chase in other games.

OoT is my favorite game of all time. I just love everything about it.

+1 for Bioshock! Trying different weapons and plasmids is fun. Plus I just love spending time in the world.

Bioshock was just so good. I rarely ever purchase a game for every device I own, but that was one of the few I just kept buying every time they ported it somewhere else.

I also own it on three devices (xbox, switch, PC)!

Lots of old JRPGs, but years/decades apart. Mostly PS2 era and older.

Skyrim more times than I can count, Witcher 2 and 3, Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, The Last of Us, Lego City Under Cover (although only 100%ed once but have done the narrative part completely 3-4 times), and I just finished my second playthrough of Kingdom Come before starting the sequel.

I replay most jrpgs I own. What's the point of having a game you only play once???

MTE... unless the game sucked so much that nothing justified it being replayed or something.

I've played Silent Hill 2 through multiple times and I honestly don't think I'll ever get tired of playing it. It's a narrative masterpiece on multiple levels.

I've played Breath of the Wild multiple times all the way through.

Same for Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Same for Assassin's Creed Odyssey (and Origins).

Both Horizon games I've done multiple times.

There's probably others but those are what come to mind first.

The first two Danganronpa games. (Probably will for UDG and V3 eventually.) Various JRPGs (most of the Final Fantasies, Dragon Quest VIII, Persona 4 Golden (3 times so far, will do a fourth...eventually), The World Ends With You, the first two Kingdom Hearts...many others). Skyrim and all the Bethesda-era Fallouts. The first two Mass Effects (have only played 3 all the way through once, so far). Certainly others that I'm blanking on.

I generally make a point to replay The Curse Of Monkey Island every 2-3 years or so.

When they got Sora in Smash Bros., Nintendo missed a golden opportunity when they didn't ask Disney if they could make Mii costumes of LucasArts characters. Guybrush Threepwood! Ben Whatsisname! Zeke and Julie from Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

Oh, hey! Me too! I also replay Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis around the same time I do Curse of Monkey Island. Those are my childhood.

I like playing the first time to just experience the story, then replaying to try different gameplay styles, explore the world, spend time with the setting, roleplay differently, try to find glitches... I do this with most games. Sometimes I'll load up a specific area to play around in. It's just fun to get another perspective on the story or to hang out inside a beloved game. I especially love replaying Bioshock, Dishonored and anything by Frictional Games.
