Same, nonny, same. I was so excited because they were my favorite minor characters in the original series and there was so much potential for a spin-off! Then the actual show came out and I was like WTF is that... I don't see how it could've failed, and yet it was disappointing as hell.

/pours a solidarity drink of choice

admittedly, watching the X-Files anew in 2024 with someone who had never seen it originally? that was not a good tv show. how the hell it ever ended up such a juggernaut of love, I will never know. but I was definitely there and into the Lone Gunmen originally, so I can't fault it for the wide-ranging appeal it clearly had.

It had a lot of flaws, that's for sure. But at the time, TV shows were given more time to find their footing. You had a couple dozen episodes per season, instead of 6-10 for your story arc and character development, people generally expected a show to take some time to hit its stride.

I was a faithful viewer from the very beginning, but in hindsight, yeah, a lot of the mythological arc was a bit wobbly and full of holes and poor planning. I prefer the Monster of the Week episodes, as a lot of fans do. It also went downhill in the later seasons. But in the meantime, it created a lot of fondness and nostalgia for the characters that still holds today.
