I would not have been able to demonstrate your restraint, nonny, so kudos for that.

Aw HELL no.

I’m not surprised, given the education system, but I am sad. Tracy’s song is so iconic.

That's sad, given how Combs has talked about how important Chapman's song was to him and promoted her to his audience at every opportunity.

Did you respond to them at all?

Yet another person chiming in to say I doubt I'd have had your strength and restraint

Thirding the sentiment "I wouldn't have had your restraint." I can't even remember the last time an opinion about pop culture made me feel this incensed. The original is sublime, IMO. It came on while I was in a thrift store once and I left the store because I was not in the headspace to be deeply moved at that particular moment.

Send them to detention. And redo detention so it's just watching I <3 the 70s/80s/90s on a loop because the children don't KNOW

I remember the first time I heard Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, having only known the Jeff Buckley version. Hated it. Now, I prefer it to the cover - probably because I'm not a lonely teenager anymore.
My dad used to say "Soft Cell did it better" every time Marilyn Manson's cover of Tainted Love came on the radio (I'm old, shush), eventually playing it for us. I like both equally now, having developed a later in life appreciation for 80s synths
The kids will come round.
