I’ve never encountered animal death in media that wasn’t truly tragic. Every time it’s been an innocent and most of the time it’s been a scene. Human deaths in media are almost never innocents and usually when they are, it is something that happens in the background. Like cities being destroyed, etc.. There are notable exceptions though, like Macaulay Culkin in My Girl. The same people who cheered his character’s death in The Good Son bawled about his death in My Girl.

tldr: you’re missing a lot of nuance
