I get the logic, but this seems kinda... performative? Speaking as someone who also goes for .mp3s/.flacs and doesn't stream, having a (pirated) .mp3 of someone shitty's music gives them no revenue. If I torrent an album and then realize the artist is an awful person afterward... Okay? I didn't give them money, so I just don't care. I delete it if I'm too uncomfortable with their actions to (see: Amanda Palmer and Kanye West), but if you don't buy from mainstream artists period, I just don't see the point in keeping notes of bad people who get no money from my listening to .mp3s in private.

Haha I love this. I've done this with fic/authors. Because they trick me every time, so I have a little file of reminders never to read those authors. Either because the fic is consistently shite, or because the author of said fic is consistently shite.

Hell yeah owning mp3s, fuck spotify. Personally I'm not planning to get rid of my (pirated) Kanye West songs, but I will admit to wincing and skipping them when I'm on shuffle sometimes, whatever works for you.

Sorry, animal death gets to me more. Always has, but even more so now that I'm owned by a kitty. She's the best thing in my life, the being I love most in all the universe. So yes, animal death, even fictional, gets to me.

I'm also the type of person whose heart hurts any time I see an animal that has been run over. That's just how I work.

Idk, animal abuse and animal death are emotional triggers for me, it just upsets me, though I've had more actual experiences with death of human loved ones and of course those were very difficult. I do see it as sadder for a human to die, but it doesn't trigger my feelings the same way in a movie. Emotional triggers aren't logical.

It's just easier to make a cat or dog likeable than a human character. Show a cat being cute, I am attached. You have to actually make the writing good to make me care about a human character, and a lot of writers are not up to that task.

I’ve never encountered animal death in media that wasn’t truly tragic. Every time it’s been an innocent and most of the time it’s been a scene. Human deaths in media are almost never innocents and usually when they are, it is something that happens in the background. Like cities being destroyed, etc.. There are notable exceptions though, like Macaulay Culkin in My Girl. The same people who cheered his character’s death in The Good Son bawled about his death in My Girl.

tldr: you’re missing a lot of nuance

I mean, I agree it's dumb to idolize sports players, but same goes for actors, musicians, etc. I think humans are kinda wired to admire people we perceive as having some kind of high social status, whether that's money or being good at sport or whatever. Which isn't GOOD but it's probably unavoidable.
