I have always written fic for myself and will emphasise this is a good motivation, but a small part of me was always sad to not end up on rec lists etc. I know some of this was because I was too scared to put myself out there; I very much lurked in fandom.

Recently I've experienced that the key to being talked about and involved more as a fic writer is to...befriend other fic writers. This is probably the most involved and welcome I've ever felt. I'm really enjoying it.

As a writer on pause, I'm happy for you! Writing can sometimes be lonely, so it's awesome you're connecting with fellow writers and getting onto recc lists.
