A lot of people have very solitary hobbies now, that keep them at home behind a screen of some sort. Their social interaction is all online rather than in-person.

Yep.
My work hours vary by week and I just go home after. I don't have any local stuff that isn't hours away so I either do hobby stuff alone, or sometimes I try to dip into online spaces... And usually leave since online communities are Like That.

At this point I'm open to trying a LDR again, but I never find single gay people into the stuff I am.
