Yeah, that story kept going on and on and on, and the scary part never arrived. It was creepy at best.

So I did listen to several of those stairs in the woods stories on the NoSleep Podcast back in the day and some of them were kind of creepy -not because the stairs themselves were creepy but because they basically were a sign of some supernatural shit going down in the vicinity? They were pretty hit and miss though.

The Stairs in the Woods is probably the weakest of the Search and Rescue series, but I love them all. The writer does say if you avoid the stairs, you will be safe. But obviously people who don't know about them wouldn't avoid them. Which causes crazy shit to happen,

I listened to them on the podcast so maybe they cleaned them up a bit. And that is also my favorite type of horror.

I liked the Search and Rescue stories but it's because the author included realistic creepy stories, not because the stairs themselves were that intimidating. The one with the husband/wife couple who dropped their baby on accident made me cry...

I am not a podcast person despite multiple attempts to get into some. But reading the comments here, I need to try yet again because this sounds like a podcast I would love. And I wish I had an opinion on your secret so I’m definitely going to look into this.

I am the mod of the Nosleep Podcast subreddit. Some advice: There are free and paid for episodes. The free ones have around half the amount of stories and ads. The first two seasons are the full episodes (they went to paid in season three).

They've recently changed to a monthly (or yearly) subscription, which I think is predatory as fuck. The highest tier gives you access to all previous season (we are on season 22). You can pay for a month, download as many episodes using a podcast app as your phone/PC will hold and the downloaded episodes will stay on your phone until you delete them.

Why is it predatory to charge a subscription fee for a podcast?

Because you used to be able to just buy each season individually. So you would own them. Now, you are paying more per year and you are only RENTING the episodes.

I also just think the move to subscriptions are predatory. Many companies plan for people to forget about the subscriptions or make it really hard to cancel them so you keep paying even if you are not using (see Adobe or streaming services).

And this isn't even going into the drama having to do with how Nosleep handled previous season pass owners.

AYRT

Thank you! I’m checking out the free ones first to see how I like them. I’m happy to pay for them if I like them but I see what you mean about the pricing. The options are to pay per season or pay for the entire catalog but whichever you choose, it’s a subscription and does not grant permanent access. So extra thank you for telling me about the downloading!

I’m having a giggle right now imagining me putting 600+ episodes of spooky shit on my ancient iPod I have backpacking and listening to it as I walk alone through the woods LOL

Definely not the scariest, I still like it for its simplicity and I did think the organs looking like cheese from all the holes was creepy.

TBH, when I first encountered the stairs-to-nowhere-in-the-woods concept, I thought the "don't climb the stairs!!" fears was because the stairs themselves were structurally unstable and you could get injured if they collapsed, hahah.

The lack of a surrounding house to me meant that maybe the rest of the house was swallowed up by a sinkhole (I have an irrational fear of them) which meant the whole area was unsafe, so "stairs to nowhere" was plenty scary just on its own to me!!

I don't know anything about this, but in the woods where I am there's plenty of abandoned/semi collapsed building and structures so the idea of finding stairs in the woods just has me shrugging, lol.
