I only watched a bit of the show because my flatmate grew up near where some of it was filmed and wanted to see if he could recognize anything. I’m not really one for this sort of immersive mystery, but I did enjoy the visuals.

And I learned that it’s set in a fictional US state, which is sort of unusual and interesting, I think.

Yeah, that story kept going on and on and on, and the scary part never arrived. It was creepy at best.

I'm not really involved in social media, so I used to use their posts a lot to track what was new and popular, but they haven't posted since the start of April.

And not just Southern US accents. There’s a clear tendency to over-use “unusual language markers” in fic. I see it for all kinds of accents, dialects, and linguistic idiosyncrasies (especially goddamn pet names).

Is there a term for this phenomenon? I guess it’s the same general thing that happens when a character eats something in canon and then subsists off only that thing in fanfic.

So I did listen to several of those stairs in the woods stories on the NoSleep Podcast back in the day and some of them were kind of creepy -not because the stairs themselves were creepy but because they basically were a sign of some supernatural shit going down in the vicinity? They were pretty hit and miss though.

Above anon’s suggestion to check TV tropes is a good one. Maybe look on tumblr or reddit too, if you’re really curious?

Since they’re all guest kudos, it’s very possible a few readers are leaving multiple kudos, maybe as they come back and reread.

The Stairs in the Woods is probably the weakest of the Search and Rescue series, but I love them all. The writer does say if you avoid the stairs, you will be safe. But obviously people who don't know about them wouldn't avoid them. Which causes crazy shit to happen,

I listened to them on the podcast so maybe they cleaned them up a bit. And that is also my favorite type of horror.
