I usually see the word “yandere” used for characters who’re homicidally possessive. I think there’s a comedy manga where one is really incompetent and keeps falling into her own traps.

I'd love to know the name of the manga if you remember it, that sounds hilarious.

Homicidally possessive? I kept seeing it applied to girls like Sakura from Naruto, who have a huge crush on a particular boy, that everyone knows about, and are willing to be awful to other girls to try to ensure he won't end up with someone else. And they don't tend to get the guy they're hot for to want them back, even though they're usually drawn as straightforwardly attractive. I've seen more extreme versions of it, but IMO, most anime girls called Yandere are just given to throwing tantrums over this one, particular thing. In a fairly feminine, screaming-and-flailing way.

Or just hotheaded tomboys, like Misty from Poke'mon.
