Teenagers are idiotic.

Which is why they should read all those things you said should be censored with an adult (preferably lots of different adults) to guide and answer questions. Otherwise they'll be blindsided by it as an adult and won't have been inoculated for it. Like smallpox.

It's a little thing we like to call "education".

yeah, good luck watching porn and weed ads with your kids. Also how does it follow your point that people ae idiots? You think that idiots are any good at parenting?

Why are you showing porn to your kids? I mean, you do you, but you're the one making that decision. 'Cause it's not on day time tv, and you have to buy channels it's on, and it's not on streaming, so I don't see how they could watch porn with you without YOU being the one to do that.... Ads for weed are all over my town, so that ship has sailed. You teach your kids to survive in the world they live in, not the world you want them to have.

My point about idiots being influenced by anything is that there are certain people who don't understand what is going on, either through natural consequences of their biology or through under- or mis-education. These people will believe things that anyone tells them if it sounds good enough, because they don't have the tools they need to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff.

These problems that they will need to navigate will not disappear because you want them to. These are the same problems that bitcoin and gambling and gaslighting present. They are not problems restricted to just kids. These are things that everyone will have to navigate and decide for the rest of their lives because we don't live in a Disneyland world. Sheltering people from them via censorship leaves them vulnerable to people who would use their inability to detect bullshit and bad ideas.

This is just another one of the many reasons why censorship is bad.

DA, but I agree with all of why you're saying censorship doesn't protect anyone and actually leaves them more vulnerable.

And this has been a long-term source of frustration for me with the organized left in the US, which I used to consider myself a part of back when they treated arguing about stuff they cared deeply about like a valid way of getting people to support them. When they reverted to "everyone will believe this, because my political party has power and now I can just force anyone saying things I don't like to shut up," I knew they were in for one hell of a fall the next time they were voted out. Because authoritarianism was driving people away from the reactionary right, and "you should accept this is true because only the bad people doubt it" was always an extremely weak argument.
