I think this might be a secret about Diane Duane's Young Wizards series that was a comment secret. Or at least, I don't recall seeing it posted, which is why I tried to resubmit it. LOL, same. While "binging" is technically correct, I more often see it spelled as "bingeing", probably to avoid confusion. So even though I know better, I still read that in my head as "[rhyming with ringing] with Babish" and it takes a second to sink in.

Ugh, English spelling and its tenuous relationship to pronunciation.

I hate "likable" every time I have to write it. And "judgment".

For anyone who's curious, the guy's name isn't actually Babish, although people do call him that.

He's Andrew Rea. Babish is the name of a character from the West Wing and I believe it's reference to the fact that he started out primarily cooking food from TV shows.

It all reminds me a bit of a Will Smith anecdote where he says he was advised to have them name his Fresh Prince character "Will" so that random fans would still be calling his correct name.

Maybe it's cause I'm American... but these don't bother me. Unlike "binging" and "bingeing", there doesn't seem to be any possible ambiguity in pronunciation (especially with "judgment").

That said, English, being what it is, has so many ambiguous pronunciations it isn't funny, and plenty of them are nice short words like "read" and "lead".

Well, "likeable" and "judgement" are also acceptable ways of spelling those words.
