Fandom: Skip Beat!

On one hand, I really dislike that Kyoko's mother was redeemed by making her socially awkward and giving her a tragic back story to make her sympathetic after abusing her daughter.

On the other hand, that is one hell of a backstory. Her flat out admitting to Kyoko that she wanted an abortion, just missed the legal window? That went way harder than it needed to and I appreciate that they went there giving what was done to her.

So yeah: I don't like that they gave the mom a tragic backstory, but also that tragic backstory is one of my favourite parts of the manga.

I keep forgetting Skip Beat is still running, I really liked the early arcs but fell out around when Ren was pretending to be Cain and Kyoko was playing his sister.

Same, actually! I originally quit reading during the part with Kyoko's mom, which I think happens during the Cain Siblings arc as well. Or somewhere around that.

Just last week I decided to catch up with the manga, reading 100+ chapters at once. That was a wild ride! I appreciate that the story keeps moving forward, especially wrt to the romance, and the current arc seems primed to give us (and Kyoko) more Ren reveals.
