There are a lot of fics I enjoyed that I can't find anymore.

Sorry for your loss Secret OP <3

Sometimes I get lucky and am able to track a fic down on the Internet Archive, though I admit I've only tried this with FFN in the past. (And before anyone asks, no, I don't share it with anyone or repost it.)

There’s a lot of AO3 on there, too! I can’t remember the steps I used to track them down but I found the fics I wanted to reread from an author who deleted their works and account. I think I searched using the title of one fic and then after that used the author’s name.

Yep! If you still have a link or can find a link to the fic by googling (on rec lists, for example), OP, you can always try archive.org.

Even if you don't have a link, if you know the author, you can try the archived versions of the author's AO3 page. I was able to save a few deleted fics that way.

THANK YOU, this suggestion inspired me to check the wayback machine for my all-time favorite fanwriter who scrubbed her work years ago. By a miracle I remembered part of the url to her personal writing site she shared with a friend. Downloading 'em now to avoid future disappointment!

Whoever runs Internet archive is doing the Lord's work. If it wasn't for them, even more internet culture and history would be lost to the sands of time

Download anything you might want to read again, if it’s not too late. A lot of explicit and lgbt stuff has been taken down by US authors since January, and that’s not going to stop anytime soon.

Not to mention all the fic getting yoinked due to AI scraping or authors finding their works 'reviewed' on goodreads or getting translated/reuploaded/whatever'd without permission or AO3/OTW drama-of-the-week or......

Backup your favorite fics, is the point.

That is the worst. I'm slowly dl'ing all my most favorite fic from AO3 because of this.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-14 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I really should do this, but I have sooo many bookmarks it seems so daunting to start ;_;

YES, same. I just try to do like...1 or 2 a day. That's all. Slow going, but it gets the job done. Pick a fandom and begin!
Good luck.

Idk why but I got out of the habit of downloading and saving my fic. I think there were a few years where I didn't have a pc and I don't download on my phone so I just got out of the habit.

I do, however, try and leave the title and author and sometimes summary of a fic in my "notes" when I bookmark it, so at least if it is deleted I'll know which fic it was. It drives me nuts just to see the "this fic was deleted" with absolutely no idea what fic it was.

I really like the design of this secret. I don't know anything about stardew valley, but I feel your disappointment through that little guy's little face. Sorry about your lost fic.

I agree about the design of the secret. It is cute and clean and good at communicating the emotions.

I remember this gloriously grimdark fic called "A sorcerer , a demon and emeralds" back in the day. I foolishly forgot to save it and now I can't find it anymore.

Another one I remember and really want to find is an old Sonic the hedgehog fanfic about Sonic and Tails being kept as pets by humans (complete with collars). Tails is owned by a really mean girl who treats him poorly. Tails eats her slowly, saving her brain for last. If anyone remembers this fic please tell me the name or provide a link

There are so many other fics and fansites that I loved from the early 2000s and now they are gone forever.
I wish I had downloaded them when I had the chance

Try /r/DeletedFanfiction on Reddit. They do good work.
