Now I'm curious what people think because of the above thread.

How left do you think FS is as a whole?
How left is FS compared to the sites you usually visit?
How left is it compared to the people around you IRL?

I think the comm is left leaning, but I think the obnoxiously loud politics addled car-screamers are really skewing the optics. I think in terms of named users, a lot of them keep their presumed lefty status in place as a default thing, just not overtly saying anything to draw the attention of the psychos. but probably fit between absolute centre, and centre left.

The anons, more of a balance, but again only the ones who WANT a fight will speak up.

So in terms of real life, maybe a little more left that real life.

Compared to other place I hang out significantly more left.

Compared to Bluesky, a good deal more right wing, but VERY MUCH on the DL with it.

Tbh I don't talk politics on here since it's mostly a fandom comm and not relevant but I consider myself liberal (not leftist) with a handful of conservative(ish) views I know better to not post. FS is more moderate compared to far left social media like Tumblr but less "radical" compared to Bluesky.

Mildy center left, except on trans stuff where it is veering hard right and even into outright trans denial and trans suppressionism.

I honestly don't agree with this, I do see transphobic anons here and some conservative positions on trans issues, but I also see a lot of trans anons and a lot of support for trans people, and lots of people with positions that are generally left of mainstream. I would more say it's a mix of views.

Also: not every comment critical of some aspects of transness/the trans community etc is automatically transphobic or right wing. People and groups are not sacrosanct and above criticism just because of their queerness.

Not to mention transphobic and pro-JKR opinions get called out when they happen, as they should. I think anon is either lying or has a victim complex if they think FS skews center left but far right on trans issues.

Generally left or centrist. I think there are probably some quiet right wing people (the normal types) but there are definitely some extremes. I'm always pretty shocked when I see Trump supporters here, but I know we definitely have a few.

I'm not actually a Trump supporter, I just hate a certain person talking about their job all the time.

Man, if only you, a voluntary anonymous participant in this community, weren't forced against your own will to nonconsentually to read about someone else's life, again and again. It's such a tragedy.

1. Compared to the average American: generally leans left. I don't think I've seen a true blue - or red, I should say - conservative in a while. I do see people assuming that because an anon in one conversation has one right-leaning stance - Israel, religion, abortion, porn, taxes - or because they have one good thing to say about a conservative politician, that they must then be a right-winger on all their stances and 'right-wingers' must be numerous around here... but I think that's generally not true.

2. FS is pretty center-left for the internet at large but the internet at large is more left than most people offline. Using Reddit as a comparison because it's the biggest, and they're kind of similar in that - generally speaking, specific subreddits not counting - and they're center-left in different ways about different issues that affect different people because that is a thing, as much as people don't like to get into it.

3. I'm in a left bubble IRL - major city in a deep blue state - with very veeery left friends so it's more centrist than people I know IRL. But people I know IRL also aren't from deep red states so the culture here is more mixed. It's not a bad thing to get other POVs.

Depends on how you define left. Left in the US is center right in Europe.

Might be more fruitful to ask where you think most anons get their news.

I go to CNN, NPR, subscribe to the NYT free morning newsletter, and occasionally peruse The Guardian if I feel like self-flagellating.

U.S. American. I always vote Democrat. Pro-choice, pro-civil rights for all, pro Ukraine, hate Putin but not the Russian people, hate Hamas but also hate Netanyahu (and I hope the Israelis get a chance to vote him out of office), pro-two state solution for the Gaza/Israel situation, pro saving the environment & regulations on big business, pro-union and workers' rights, pro medicaid/medicare and programs that help people, anti-tax breaks for the rich.

I always considered myself progressive but am I actually just center left nowadays? I dunno. The meanings of words seem to keep changing.

I'm pretty much the same but I don't care about the middle east. That area of the world is just hosed and has been in conflict for decades and nothing seems to change. It's just none of my business at this point.

I think more center with slight left leanings, especially compared to more right leaning spaces. But I don't think it's as left leaning as some anons seem to think it is.

American leftist but more centrist than most of the places I hang out, both online and off.
