Yeah, based on what I've heard about her mental state during her marriage and her behaviour after it, I think that unless Diana had become very boring very quickly in the eyes of the paparazzi and tabloids, she would have spiralled hard as social media started coming to the forefront. None of that makes her death anything but an avoidable tragedy, of course, but I think it unlikely that she would have been able to keep her legacy of good deeds going with what would have been intense, unrelenting, inescapable scrutiny.

Agreed, she most likely would have become some sort of shill and did the self destruction thing. I hope Harry learns how to escape that fate someday. Sad as hell.

Sadly, I think you're right. She did a lot of good things, but she was such a vulnerable person and the media weren't ever going to leave her alone. The pressure would make anyone crack, never mind someone who was so unhappy and emotionally fragile.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The last part for sure. Most people would become messes under that kind of scrutiny and pressure even if they didn't start out fragile. The ones that don't are the ones that stand out as more resilient than the norm.

Try read less tabloids.

I was gonna say...the last time I heard anything in the news about Prince Harry was "when his grandmother died, he attended the funeral." No reality TV appearances, no cosmetic surgeries, no dangerous stunts, no saying controversial things to the press. He's still in his first marriage, and last I knew they were perfectly happy.

If this guy is attention-seeking, he's shockingly bad at it!

This secret-maker is reading too many right wing tabloids that demonize Harry and hate Meghan for *gasp* having a business and him for writing a book.

60 Minutes is a right-wing tabloid?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, you could turn on Netflix or if you watched 60 Minutes you’d have seen him since then. Not counting all the podcasts. Plus the whole thing about personal security. I can’t remember the last time I even saw a tabloid but Harry pops up in the news frequently and has done a ton of self promotion since Queenie died.

Well, Netflix has never promoted it to me, but I searched for his name there and found a short documentary series...from 2022. And Megan has a cooking series, apparently? Can't even tell from the description if Harry appears in it.

"He pops up in the news frequently" and "he is desperately seeking attention from the news" are two different statements. It's easy to believe the first one. (I assume the news talks about a lot of boring famous people.) If this guy was desperate and attention-seeking, you'd think he'd be doing something more dramatic than "possibly having a cameo on the lifestyle show where his wife learns a recipe for homemade focaccia and shares an easy tip for everyday flower arrangements."

"He pops up in the news frequently"

He's had a couple of court cases about paying for a security team recently, but that was pretty much it. He and Meghan seem to have opted for a quiet life.

I don't think you understand upper class English people at all.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-16 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're all messes.

Am I the only one who finds the concept of imagining how someone would have "turned out" in this way kind of weird? We're not them, we don't know them intimately, we don't know the choices they would have made, how world events would shape them, it's impossible to know how their lives would have shaken out if they lived. Idk, I just find making up a completely imaginary (and disparaging or unflattering) future for a dead person offputting.

Yes, a major trauma of Harry's life was losing his mother in a very public way at a young age, and then being stalked by the same paparazzi. It really is impossible to make a "what if" from that!

+1

She may have had problems later in life but she may have turned things around. It's impossible to say because she died...

(Anonymous) 2025-06-16 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Same. It icks me out quite a bit. The fact someone like Diana died tragically at a young age is tragic and sad enough. Why would anyone want to or feel a need to speculate what her life would have been like had she lived?

She's dead and she will never do anything ever again. Why this need to wonder if she would have ended up as a bad person or a cringe celebrity?
She died in a horrific violent way, is that not enough for you to respect the life she had lived?
You need to start headcanoning some RPF fanfic?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-21 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
it's pretty fucking despicable and ghoulish tbh

(Anonymous) 2025-06-16 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
TBH Unless you were Diana's absolute closest confidant, all you can do is speculate.

You don't know what would/could have happened.

Let the woman rest in peace!
