Not OP.

But I can roll with villains being the shitheads they are because the story doesn't pretend they're not doing awful things, even if they have a reason for it. But those 'romantic' bad boys are a complete turn off for me because they're being shitty and awful but it's framed as 'romantic' or 'mysterious' when he's just a negging asshole. Which I feel is a big difference.

That makes sense. And I think I'm pretty much the same. Villain that is clearly a villain and also attractive? I'm down for that. "badboy" that we're supposed to think is romantic and cool while they are doing shitty and/or sexist things? No thanks.

But I also get tired of people dismissing and belittling the fact that women often really enjoy villains by mischaracterizing them as "bad boys."
