Re: Did you grow up with fandom?

100% grew up on fandom, 80s/90s. A lot of the late 80s I spent obsessed with certain toy lines, then in the 90s it was various Nintendo-based video game franchises because my dad had a NES and I saved up for a SNES on my own. When I was at school my friend and I would draw art and write stories about koopa troopas, at home when we were inside my sister and I would pretend we were Yoshis, when my neighborhood friend came over we'd pretend we were in a Final Fight-like beat-em-up that we named School Bash where every level started by jump-kicking off the back porch. I still have art he drew of us as the player characters vs the evil principal on the wall in my room. In middle school I wrote stories about a Meowth ending up in the real world and trying to pretend he was a normal cat and I had to keep his secret.

I also was drawing Sonic inflation art years before I ever knew about the internet, and never shared it with anyone because when you're like 6 you don't know why you like the Poison Flower Valley episode of AoStH so much but you still know it's "not normal" and you shouldn't show anyone your fanart. And then deviantArt came into existence and I learned not everyone was as diligent about masking their weird niche interests...
