lol i dont mind them because to me they've always been AUs where every 18 year old is a wise old sage that is practically ready to dive into adult business and be head of a household, and also played by a 35 year old actor

I feel the same way. I used to read AUs where one character was the student and the other was a student teacher, but now I can't read any of them. It just makes me feel icky.

Eh, I don’t see it. When I’m reading a story about high schoolers, I’m in the perspective of a high schooler, just like when I’m reading the perspective of My Little Ponies, I’m in the perspective of a cartoon pony. They can have sex with each other without me the adult human being involved.

God yes. Though for me it was when I hit my 30s. I've never cared for HS AUs anyway but at some point the ages became too much.

I wish there was a general trend to switch to college AUs. It gives you the classes/schedule, the 'forced' socialization, the not having to deal with reality (aka careers etc).

I’m afraid I’m one of those people who never understood the appeal of media set is schools anyway so high school AUs have always been lost on me, especially ones where the setting is magical or fantastical in some way, what on earth is the appeal in stripping that away to put the characters in a regular school?

Especially when those characters are not going to be the same at all when removed from their settings.

You know, OP? I agree. Quality and hard-earned talent is always special, and it's nice to see it still around some days.

Nope. Hard disagree. She's big talent, but not a unique talent. No one (even a background player) should have to suffer a toxic work environment just because the diva knows she can get away with it. I've never seen her in anything that couldn't be done by someone else.

That is not a connection I would have made - the being overweight connected to visually showing low-class/not intelligent etc - but I can see how it could be a connection now you've pointed it out.

We've all got stuff we're oversensitive about. Sorry this put a damper on your enjoyment. I haven't read the graphic novel, but A Wrinkle in Time was one of my favorite books as a child/teen. It still holds a special place in my head, but I haven't read it in years now. I should see if my library has the graphic novel!

I’m not sure what “pandering to autists” looks like, but if “pandering to creeps” means fanservice, I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be. To draw a comparison, if I were playing a game targeted at gay people, I could make it through a scene of one guy admiring another guy’s muscles. By the same token, I can get through a scene of a guy ogling a girl’s boobs.

Then again, I see stuff sometimes that I’d call “pandering to sexists.” You know, the weak woman needs the strong male lead to protect her. That’s something I despise.

Seeing fellow Americans get worked up at the potential of a third world war due to the current Israel-Iran-United State rigamarole makes me feel like once again, Americans are trying to make themselves the main character of the conflict while ignoring the people in the region (especially Iran and Palestine, because once again, Israel didn't stop bombing Palestine just because they started another fight) that are in actual danger. There was no WW3 after 9/11, and that was when Americans were way more open to the idea of going to war in the Middle East. So I think this is going to be yet another nothing burger.
