This secret made me melancholy for some reason... without context I can't say if you're holding yourself back from fun out of shyness, or if you've recognized a potentially dangerous trait in how you get when you drink, and taken care to avoid it. Either way, it sounds a bit sad to reflect on.

Oh man, yes. Never read Great Gatsby, but I definitely can relate not liking to drink because I don't want to lose control of how I behave and it tends to heighten my anxiety over being perceived.

That's all well and good. Just make sure you don't also follow Daisy's example in other arenas. Like being a blank slate of a character that mainly exists for men to project their various ideals and insecurities on. Or, um, driving.

I drink, but I understand. I stopped getting drunk at all because I don't like loosing control. Lol, I was in Amsterdam and never tried any of coffeshops because getting high seems even worse

I get this. I began drinking after abstaining 100% only when I hit my late 20s because I was becoming more accepting of myself and less scared of how others would perceive me. I was a lesbian very very far into the closet, and also had a lot of mental and self image issues.
Then I began relying on alcohol a little bit too much and became a borderline alcoholic around my early 30s.
Now I don't drink at all if not a glass of red wine during very special celebrations. I can't really be trusted with alcohol. The sense of freedom it gives you really is intoxicating. I miss it almost every day, sigh.
