I do appreciate the reminder that fandom comes in a lot of flavours. I try to make a point of taking other people’s experiences seriously, since the world is so big and varied. My not having seen something is not very good evidence that someone else is lying about it happening.

That said, it’s still easy for me to default to assuming that “fandom” means the types of thing I’m most familiar with.
