I feel this. I stopped gaming and mostly stopped watching TV in my 30s. It wasn't a choice, my interest just kind of waned. I'll still occasionally play games but I'm not as big into them or searching out fandoms or people to talk to. I slowly realized how much of my social circle was built around gaming and fandom and as soon as those dried up I was pretty alone. I've since joined some groups for my newer interests and am slowly building a new friend circle, but it's been tough.

Yeah, I definitely feel this. I still watch anime and play JRPGs, but it takes me quite a while to actually finish a show or game because I have other interests (think it took me a year and a half to go through Fire Emblem 3 Houses, and I still haven't actually beaten every single route). And with how quickly fandom culture moves on, especially in the seasonal anime/JRPG space, I ended up losing a lot of my friends. Combined with being into weird niche stuff and how hard it is to meet people in a non-online space, it makes it hard to make friends just in general, too.

Nthing this, I just don't have the interest anymore. I do keep up with gaming news because it's so embedded into me now but the news is always bad so I've started backing off that too. I bought a second hand nintendo switch during the pandemic to play Animal Crossing and that was my major gaming investment since I turned 30.

I didn't lose anyone because I lost contact with my friend group after I moved but that's all I can really say about it.

The 18-34 target audience is a real thing. Lots of people move on in their mid 30s.

I've had a similar experience, but it isn't that those things don't interest me anymore, just that hobbies where I learn/improve a skill are more rewarding and so usually win my time.

Yeah, my interests are niche compared to what my friends are into. We talk about our lives and we have moments where we share interests, but we don't yap like we did when I was more into fandom culture.

It's nice to have more individual hobbies. I've enjoyed writing since I was a child so it's never been too out there for me to be someone who enjoys solo endeavors.

People are probably going to cry about you being a bitch anyway, but I'll be over here nodding and thinking about far, far too many people who decided to tell me in detail all about their sex lives/marital troubles/medical issues after playing a game with me once or being in the same discord for a week then took it personally when immediately ghosted

Different people have different kinds of friendships and view relationships differently. This is how it is for you, but for some people they really do connect with people online through fandom. And both are okay.

I'm always surprised at how people just overshare with folks they just met or haven't known for long. It's one thing to have a support group that's for a specific purpose... but... fandom isn't that, generally. It's cool if you do find a group within fandom that eventually develops into that, but... yeah.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to make friends but I've also been that friend someone latches onto way too quickly because there isn't anyone better around, and it sucks for multiple reasons.

Oh yeah, there are people like that outside of fandom as well. They don't consciously view sharing personal details like it's an emotional intimacy transaction, but they'll tell you TMI stuff you didn't ask for, then expect you to reciprocate, thereby strengthening the bond. If you don't respond in kind, it feels like a rejection to them.

I've never quite been able to watch, but I can see the appeal. There's something sort of viscerally satisfying about it, esp. popping pimples.

She! Would! Be! PERFECT!!!!!!

To start off with,she's sane and cool with tons of agency. There is TONS of space and time for her adventures. Cavil would make a perfect Cain and could show up in an episode. And as an Inquisitor she can bump into every faction in the Universe.

And ALL WHILE being a pretty normal and normally pretty lady. Let's make some chudsmad while appealing to the mass market woo!

She's the perfect jumping off point, the narration will be a blast, anyone can die except the savant, the slang girl and the psyker.

What are you (or other Holmes/Watson fans) imagining? Are we talking Victorian era Holmes and Watson or a more modern adaptation? Romance-focused plot lines or in a stable established relationship as they investigate cases?

According to the British press, the UK is going to be in a landwar against Seagulls soon.

We have the worst press in the world. We're a safe-ish country, in the safest part of the world, with our worst problems being the inequality and growing gap between rich and poor. Yet our press is always stuff like "Scary Brown People are Trans-ing Seagulls to be Immigrants on Benefits, why aren't we bombing more brown people?" or some stupid shit like that.
