Yes, it's a kind of forced intimacy and I hate it. I think it happens more frequently online but it's definitely a real life thing too.

DA

The part that annoys me the most personally is none of them check with others about how comfortable they are even hearing details about really heavy topics like infidelity, cancer, abortions, mental health crises, etc. That's not stuff you spring on people randomly, especially not strangers who you don't know - and if they do that I don't want to be their friend anyway!

I met someone IRL who told me about her dad molesting her within 30 minutes.

Like, I'm sorry that happened to you, but I barely know you!

Agreed. It's putting people in an awkward position, and I never enjoy it when people do this to me. But I'm a private person and there are so many things I'm not comfortable sharing with a person I barely know. That's for more established friendships, and that takes time. Meeting someone who's aggressively trying to take a shortcut to being besties just feels wrong.

I work in retail and you'd be surprised by just how many customers decide to tell me things I really shouldn't be hearing because I guess I'm an NPC that doesn't exist beyond the store? It's fucking weird and I hate it because someone will dump some very personal shit on me and I have to awkwardly get out an 'oh no' despite me not feeling more than general sympathy because I met them 30 seconds ago.
