The secret doesn’t say current era, though. It says modern era, implying a prolonged period without any new material until after cultural shifts take place. And we know that isn’t true for at least two of them.

Ok, I have to clarify here! The anon that started the thread in the politics section is not, as far as I can tell, the same anon that I think people are referencing that's always talking about trolls or fake FS hackers or planning suicide.

Someone has genuine rage and despair about how things are going in the US re: healthcare. I don't want people to think that's fake or trolling because of something another anon did. (I usually don't differentiate anons but this is a situation in which multiple people sound like they're accusing this anon of being a very particular other person, who they're not.)

Ugh, the news that's coming out of Canada with their fucked up version of assisted suicide is madness. I'm incredibly fortunate that (if we can get in) Canada would just be a way station. My wife has two other citizenships besides the US and is working on a third.

I'm sorry; my mom died six months in the first time, and I had to tell her he'd won the day after election day and even though the care home had fucked up her meds and she was out of it, she still was together enough to be certain I was fucking with her as a joke, and then I changed the channel to show her the news...

Idk, she was almost certainly going to die anyway, but sometimes I wonder if it would've been less awful without that as the backdrop. I'm so sorry you have to deal with losing your mom at the same time the country's going to hell. It's awful.

I'm agnostic on certain aspects of AI, but ChatGPT for therapy sounds like a nightmare when it lacks less confidentiality than a real one. Not to mention even using it for legal, historical, and news related questions brings up complete misinformation. I would not trust that with information about my disabilities, medication dosages, and trauma history when its responses are predictive text.

If it helps the venting anon, I got free therapy via a crisis center in my state for assault victims. It was several hours away, but after the pandemic I exclusively saw them via teletherapy at no cost. I'd look into programs like that if possible.

NA-yeah, back when he was still running for prez, RFK Jr talked about wanting to force people with ADHD off their meds and into work camps, oh wait, "wellness" farms, because nothing says "efficient workforce" like people with scatterbrain disease and no farm/agricultural work forced to go cold turkey off their meds.

Within the last week I saw someone in the administration talking up that the detention centers aren't hellholes because they have... drumroll please... showers. I stared at the wall for a bit after that, because if that was sincere, then the people running this shitshow are even more ignorant of history than I thought, and if it was malicious, how long until the soap is blocks of soapstone?

I hope this whole shit circus falls apart before it can do more damage, but that's extremely unlikely, so I hope you can get out.

Out of curiosity, do you glance at the IPs logged for anons? I don't mean this in a "breaking anonymity" way, but that's usually a good way to tell if a certain anon is "that anon" or not.

Some stand out, others don't! I try not to assume things. Same IP replying twice, chances are its family or roommate or something. If it's the same IP pretending to be 7 different people all replying with the same opinion to the same person it is gets kind of silly (this hasn't happened in a while but it has happened! I don't remember what it was about)

Edit: seems like that one anon is back again. Deleting the things they post as usual.

Yeah, this trope is really depends. For example I don't really tend to like enemies to lovers as in villain and hero. I need a really good extra work for that. But I adore more rivals to lovers with people working out their differences or something they clash about.

I think Pratchett walked a fine line between examining types or archetypes of people and humanizing them as individuals, and i do think that understanding how to read them with some emotional distance isn't really easy for a lot of people, but yeah, finding her funny and sometimes on point doesn't mean she's not immensely flawed or off-putting.
