The shipping=activism push over the last 10 years has really emboldened this kind of entitled behaviour, because now it's not just about people wanting a person selfish thing, it's for Correct Social Reasons which just turns fanbases nasty imo. I get being disappointed in canon for not doing something you'd like, but the answer to that isn't to harass the people working on it like fandoms seem to do now.

(Like I look back on my some of my older non-canon ships and wonder which ones, if they sprung into existence now, would get this kind of fandom environment and it makes me sad because it would have ruined the fun of those ships).
