Yeah lol, it's the same as with people with a gaming addiction. Sure, gaming is not bad per se, it can also be beneficial at times, but if you use it as you primary coping mechanism and you can't take a break from them, it IS an addiction. Some people just can't handle gaming in moderation. Same with fanfiction.
And if I remember correctly, Dr. Anna Lemke, who treats addiction, was addicted to raunchy romance novels herself. Nonny, read her book, dopamine nation. It is quite good! Even if it will not cure you from addiction (obviously, because I'm still here lol) I think it will be potentially be interesting.

To my therapist I approached it in a more "general escapism" stuff. I told her it was books in specific, but I think that I even mentioned something like fandom. Something general like "in the internet there are people writing on forums about plots of TV shows or books and sometimes creating new stories". I didn't think it necessary to explain to her what fandom and fanfictions really are, but I did explicitly say that some of the books I read are sexually explicit. (I'm not really addicted to the porn itself, but it is a feature of some of the fanfic I read)
(good) Therapists are not judgemental, but are ignorant, so I say just go with the nearest thing to fic: amateur novels written by internet randos.
