(Anonymous) 2025-07-09 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)I had the opposite happen with MCR. I was crazy about them in high school (still am actually) and begged all my friends to listen to them, but they all said the music was too depressing and emo. When they announced their reunion, suddenly all those friends were hyped up and trying to get tickets and I was just wondering what happened. Had they secretly been listening to them the whole time or something?

(Anonymous) 2025-07-10 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)Something similar happened to me with MCR. I've been a fan of MCR since I first heard "I'm Not OK". I had a friend who hated emo/punk/punk pop music and they made fun of MCR whenever I would be excited for MCR.
We stopped talking for years after high school, but got back in touch in our early 30s. It surprised me when I mentioned MCR and my friend talked to me as if we've both been fans of MCR since our teen years.
I didn't want to be immature and act all gatekeepy by asking them to clarify how long they've been a MCR fan. It was just unexpected for them to react positively to MCR. LOL
I'm glad MCR snark died down and they're one of those music acts where people can just enjoy their music, because it's good.
