I'll be 35 in a couple months, and that honestly sounds like a good idea. I never thought of doing that before.

I'm the opposite, the older I get the more I can't be assed with all the random filler in most videos. I'm playing them at 1.25x lol

(Anonymous) 2025-07-17 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, lol.

And I've now been doing that for so long that when I try to listen to something at regular speed, it sounds like everyone's on Valium.

Same. Speed it up and put some captions on. I don't have time for these slow poke narrators or all the filler they shove in lol

I've been doing this too. I also use Sponsorblock extension to skip the filler. it crowd sources the location of promos, sponsor segments, intros, outros, sub reminders etc in videos and let you auto skip them when you watch the video. Also can add a highlight where the actual content starts and you can auto skip to it.

Yep, I play non-music videos at 1.5x minimum. Better if the person is a slow talker so I can still understand them at 1.75x or 2x. Cuz I ain't got time for that!

Same

+1
I speed up some and others I just read the transcript. I don’t have time for the filler but also think most YouTubers have no business speaking in front of a camera.

I don't really understand this for most vids, but there are definitely people who speed up their videos so they are speaking like they are on crack and I either skip them or have to slow their videos down. Not so much because I can't follow, but because it just hits me in a really weird way and makes me twitch to see people talking/being faster than life by just a tiny margin. Messes with my brain.

Oddly enough, I don't have that problem if it's me that is opting to speed up the playback.

I just don't think I could stand that any more than I can stand speeded up vids. It's so obviously not 'the norm' as in - not how people talk and move - that the distraction and irritation of that would be too much.

wait.... so if I could slow down the chocolate guy's videos [aka Amaury Guichon] it'll be easier to follow along? That's a *thing*?????

I don't do this, but OUCH at the "turning into your parents" bit. My eyesight was never great, but somewhere in my 30s I've become the Winnie the Pooh meme. :c
