I can totally understand this! But also, I can totally understand readers not being interested in it. It wasn’t just the stories he told, it was how he told them. Nineveryone wants to read an insanely long list of “this is probably a reference to this” and “see the annotation for this other book” which turns out to be an explanation of the Cheshire cat. That’s practically the definition of Type 2 fun. And not everyone in the fandom is interested in how Discworld connects to the real world and our history; it’s ok to just like something.

I mean, in the wild, whatever. But if fans roll into Pratchett meta spaces trying to meta with the other fans and their meta is flawed because they're missing a significant chunk of the picture? I would absolutely be all "for the last time read this so you don't embarrass yourself again."

I've noped my way wholeheartedly out of meta discussions with Rings of Power fans who not only haven't read the Silmarillion, they haven't read the actual LOTR either and think they know Tolkien's writing. There's a point where you're on two entrely different planets and you can't mix the meta. It doesn't work.

AYRT Oh it should absolutely be required reading before entering meta spaces!

Oh dear, just wait till you meet a JJBA fan.
