I agree. I think a lot of people would agree with this nowadays. But I can see people getting riled up about this too.

My partner is in a discord that skews young (college/early adult) and pretty left. They have a no IRL politics rule because no one wants to moderate it. They had a single, opt-in channel, but I think they closed that, too. In a space full of largely agreeing people, it would devolve into doom spirals and nothing helpful.

I appreciate there being room for politics discussion in most places, but it doesn't need to be everywhere. We all know that the current landscape is a tirefire and that everyone's scared. We don't need to make every space a vessel for that fear.

I could basically have written this secret. I really liked the idea of her being something different, especially after Ruby and Fifteen felt so similar to each other. Having someone who doesn’t want to be on an adventure or has a real need to go back home could have given her a different perspective and given the two of them a different dynamic.

And then, like so much about the recent series, the things I liked on paper or in the abstract were executed in ways I didn’t enjoy at all.

I did this recently when I was reading some of my old fic I’d forgotten. I got lost in one story and gave kudos before remembering I wrote it 20 years ago LOL

Flying tips

I am flying tomorrow, for the first time in 6 years. I'm terrified of flying. I've got my anxiety meds and vertigo med all set as well as my ipod and noise-cancelling headphones. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Are there any recent changes (other than the shoe thing, that I know)? Anyone have any tips for making flying easier?

Sometimes it is relevant. A lot of media does talk about issues both during the time they were made and issues today. You can't say Star Trek or Babylon 5 aren't relevant to political issues and issue discussions in general.

drink lots of water!!! it depends on your flight time length, obviously, but it's very dehydrating so the more water you drink the more refreshed you will be when you get off the airplane. don't be afraid to ask for two cups of water or water + tea during your meal! also the trips to the toilets, while annoying, will help you move a little bit and that too helps tremendously with blood circulation. I do regularly 10+ hours flights and drinking enough water is the n.1 tip I have.
