"OP definitely can't tell the difference between a discussion about politics in Star Trek, and the third random discussion to mention real world events about Israel that day."

Ding ding ding, assumptions made

"also when OP said irrelevant, they clearly actually meant relevant"

I didn't really say that. All I said was that sometimes talking about politics is relevant. Sometimes it isn't. Doing away with all discussions isn't the answer, just keeping it relevant to the fandom is.

Nobody mentioned wanting to ban relevant politics talk though.

This is like someone wanting to ban a certain type of fic and you pointing out that some fics aren't that type. Cool, but ???

Maybe I misread it, but it read to me like the secret keeper was saying or at least thinking discussing real life things was irrelevant in fandom discussions.

Genuine question you don't use discord much do you? Politics channels in there are like shit posts of trump memes or leftists infighting about gaza

I don't use it at all. But wouldn't a political channel be about politics? Meaning politics would be entirely relevant.

(Anonymous) 2025-07-20 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Fandom discords having a politics channel doesn't make that politics channel relevant to the fandom the discord is for. OP said irrelevant, I'm taking their word for it and reading it as they meant irrelevant and not going to try to find every reason they might actually have meant the complete opposite, not sure why you are tbh

(Anonymous) 2025-07-20 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
DA the secret is explicitly about irrelevant political discussions and even states they’re talking about the political channels in discord servers in particular.

They said they don't want irrelevant and shitposting allowed. Someone saying "I don't want irrelavant posts" and someone else coming in and trying to argue "I think relevant posts should be allowed!" is a bit silly, which is what it seems you are doing. I think you misinterpreted or misread this secret.

That's possible. Sorry to OP if I did.

NAYRT

You mentioned you're not familiar with Discord elsewhere and I think that's the main factor lol. Politics in fandom Discords tend to be separated out into its own memeing and shitposting area so it doesn't happen everywhere else, like the politics thread on FS was... and most of that was not relevant to anything fandom at all. Imagine that only with like 300 people and Trump gifs...
