Anyone here an avid thrifter?

If so, any finds you'd like to share?

Brought to you by the solid wood desk I scored for $20 today at Goodwill. 🙌

Nice!

I love thrifting but there is nothing good in my area. We do have a good secondhand craft store and one day I scored some fun colored yarn there for a future crochet project, but that's about as good as it gets haha

What kind of yarn? Striping/ombre/cake/etc?

A little jealous because our creative reuse center just lost their retail space. :(

It is a pretty rainbow variegated! I got two skeins and still haven't decided what I want to do with them.

I think my all-time best find in terms of sheer discount was the Eames House of Cards (current MSRP $25), complete and in good shape despite the condition of the box, for 50 cents.

More curious finds have included long-OOP items like two Buddha Machines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM3#Buddha_Machine) and the Cavallini and Co. Mah Jong card deck (made in 2002; see here at https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/mahjong-chinese-playing-cards-made-21946717), but those scores were quite some years ago and savvier people (including the thrift stores themselves) tend to put those on eBay.

Not avid - not anymore at least-but I do browse thrift stores sometimes and enjoy. Thrifting has gotten me some of my invest fashion and decor findings ever!

Currently keeping warm under a genuine pashmina shawl, $AU3. There's a handmade patchwork quilt over the back of my sofa, $6 (I was outraged at the price of this but it didn't stop me from snapping it up.)

Thrifting is such fun, and it allows me to try fashions I wouldn't normally look at.

I am, but primarily online these days. I bought a cool marble apple on Ebay this week and am looking for a new rug for my living room.

Most of my decor stuff and furniture was bought secondhand somewhere.

I found a 1960s stereo system at Goodwill for $30 once, and if it wasn't ABSOLUTELY HUGE and made of extremely solid wood, I would've bought it. The record player still worked!

I thrift all my clothes except socks, bras, and undies. I may need to switch to making them, because my neighborhood went from having a dozen thrift/secondhand stores to one, and everything's so poorly made of shit fabric these days. Although where I'll get fabric I don't know.

Even high end designers are using 100% polyester now. It's plastic FFS! Rayon is marginally better until something goes wrong. And something always goes wrong.

I do the majority of my clothes and decor shopping at thrift stores! I love going to ones by universities during move-out weeks - you can find some insanely nice stuff there.

My favorite find is this fuzzy wool knitted Fair Isle sweater with a soft, blanket-like interior and hood. 3 bucks and it keeps me warm all winter.
