Fandoms you'd rather forget you were in

(Anonymous) 2025-07-24 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I just saw a Hetalia doujinshi being uploaded somewhere and remembered what an unhinged dumpster fire that fandom could be and while I never much participated in it, I really tried to forget I was ever part of that fandom.
What are some fandoms you kinda regret, would like to forget or are even kinda of ashamed of having been part of?

Life on Earth. The premise was good, but everyone except me loved Gene Hunt. The was so nice on the surface but a bit of a shark tank underneath.

lol, for a second I thought I was not only going to discover a nature documentary fandom, but a nature documentary fandom drama.

Teen Wolf. I was swept by my fandom friends and I still want to forget this dumpster fire

My friend dragged me to see The First Time (since I like Teen Wolf™). It isn't a bad movie in it's genre but I Fucking Hate romantic comedies. I still mourn this 1,5 hours of my life, it's been more than 10 years

Also Hetalia, and Voltron.

While nowhere as bad as some of the ones mentioned, I can't help but cringe at my Invader Zim days.

I am still baffled there was a time I treated its lore seriously in the same way you do Halo or Star Trek, whereas not even the creators gave it that much thought.

I'll always have a fond spot for Yugioh!, but 12 year old me REALLY should not have been reading the fetish kinky fics I was reading on adultFFnet.

I am really glad the internet didn't exist when I was young, I would have read so many things that would have warped my young mind. As it is I read a lot of things that warped my young adult (early 20s) mind that I kind of wish I hadn't.

I was spared from that one by sheer virtue of shipping something unpopular alksjdals but the amount of Team Rocket smut I should not have been reading when I was twelve...

HP is the big one. Not just for the jkr of it all, not here to talk about her. Before all of that, I just found the writing didn't hold up on a re-read, and it's not like I won't invest a LOT of time and energy into something with subpar writing, but like...

I don't know, there's a difference to me between a tv show or movie fandom where the writing being bad is something I go into eyes wide open, and a book fandom where I genuinely believed the writing was something special and then I have to be embarrassed about that when I realize how it's not that good compared to other stuff I'd read as a kid, where I can go back and re-read it and find it enjoyable. There was just a massive fandom and I was able to access the internet.

South Park, I guess? I wasn't ever in the like... main fandom, but I definitely cringe at having been a minor fan of that one. I'm just glad I wasn't around for any shipping vs antis craziness.

Entourage an ex-friend dragged me into and I VERY much cringe over that one.

There are other fandoms I've gotten a little burned out on, but I don't REGRET them. I regret those three.
