I can't get into k-pop because, as an ace, the whole thing just reads to me as *singing* Aren't I so sexy? *dancing* Aren't you sooo attracted to me? *pouts into camera* Don't you want me?

And I get second hand embarrassment for them that, no, I'm not, and I don't. Sorry, boys. :/

OP
I mean, yeah, same - that's definitely a factor in this as well but for me, some things that are supposed to be attractive do register as such even though I personally don't find them attractive and others tip the scale too hard into "ugh, I'm drowning in second-hand embarassment, please stop" cringe territory and I can't for the life of me see why anyone would find it attractive. Like, in theory, I know a lot of people DO (just like a lot of people were really into this elevator boys/cringy boyfriend POV stuff as well) but I just think it's sleazy.

LOL!! That is a perfect description.

What's interesting to me, being on the sidelines, is the emphasis on male objectification rooted in a sort of androgyny. Because usually we see either females being objectified like this ("Aren't I so sexy?") or males being objectified for being big manly men with workout body etc.

I feel like a lot of the fanbase is attracted to that kind of feminized male objectification, if that makes sense.

I remember being a teen in the 00's and how much the 'heart-throb' thing was pushed with boy bands and it never worked on me. I'm not that much into pop either outside of enjoying a few songs, but even then I've never been into the people behind my favorite bands, I like the music primarily and that's it

But it's clearly a marketing tactic that works well because it's been a thing since at least the Beatles.

I respect it, but I fucking stanned ‘Nsync back in the day and my tank’s empty.

Like, nothing is going to hit the same as the euphoria I felt watching ‘N the Mix when I was a teen, and there's no point trying to replicate it.

Each to their own, but I'm too old for that shit.

There's a couple of songs I like but generally it's like every song is turned up to 11 emotionally on every line. There's little variation in emotion, no buildup, no resolution, it's just A SONG SUNG FULL BLAST all the way through.

I'm Ace and I find it campy and therefore safe lmao

I can't take the sexy smoldering and bragging seriously, but it's campy so I see it as a safe way to express sexuality in which all parties involved know it's a performance and not real. And because it's not real, I can join in on the camp and be unapologetically into it.
