I remember being a teen in the 00's and how much the 'heart-throb' thing was pushed with boy bands and it never worked on me. I'm not that much into pop either outside of enjoying a few songs, but even then I've never been into the people behind my favorite bands, I like the music primarily and that's it

But it's clearly a marketing tactic that works well because it's been a thing since at least the Beatles.

Like, nothing is going to hit the same as the euphoria I felt watching ‘N the Mix when I was a teen, and there's no point trying to replicate it.

There's a couple of songs I like but generally it's like every song is turned up to 11 emotionally on every line. There's little variation in emotion, no buildup, no resolution, it's just A SONG SUNG FULL BLAST all the way through.

I can't take the sexy smoldering and bragging seriously, but it's campy so I see it as a safe way to express sexuality in which all parties involved know it's a performance and not real. And because it's not real, I can join in on the camp and be unapologetically into it.

I'm not an anime/manga person, but... yeah, a lot of the early art (and some of the current stuff) is so ugly to me that I don't see myself getting past that and enjoying it.

I do not agree, but I admit I have firm nostalgic googles on and miss some of the style of that period. But fair enough, to each their own. Art is subjective and all.

I think a lot of the recs come from people with their nostalgia goggles stuck to their faces a bit too tightly and who haven't watched the older shows they rec in years themselves. I can totally relate to that though, because there are several shows I had the fondest memories of and which I thought had amazing animation and then I watched a bit of them in recent years and... damn, they were BADLY drawn and animated worse.

Weirdly, I'm having the opposite problem with getting into new anime. I don't know why, but I have an easier time getting into older anime than really new 'too-polished' anime.

Whoa, what's the skinny? I didn't realize there was *drama* in the MB fandom. What a strange concept for basically a cyborg that's only interested in watching TV with A.R.T. and saving stupid humans from killing themselves or each other. I mean, I'm sure somewhere MB is looking at the fandom drama thinking, "Not as good as Sanctuary Moon, possibly on par with World Hoppers. I'll stash it for later."
