RIP Tom Lehrer - satirical songwriter and mathematician

He’s the first celebrity in quite a while whose death actually touches me. I listened to his music from a young age and learning the lyrics introduced me to quite a few things for the first time… like pellagra, zip guns, and “solicitation” as a term for prostitution.

Might spend some time this week going through his catalogue of songs, which FYI is all free to listen to and download from his website: https://tomlehrersongs.com/

Yeah, this one hurt - I really enjoyed his stuff and it always made me laugh (poisoning pigeons in the park!)
Thanks for the link.

As much as I knew it was coming, the man was 97, I was still really hoping he'd last just a little longer...

I also learned a lot from those songs. Like what base eight is, and the MDF. And a whole lot of elements.

On the one hand, I can't say he left us too young because damn, 97! On the other hand... *breaks down sobbing*

Still sad I never met him or heard him sing when I was at UCSC. At least he outlived Kissinger. If only he'd outlived the current administration.
