this feels like a disingenuous/bad faith reading-- certainly it's counter to my reading, which is that OP is living in a country with a dictator in charge and wants to have hope for getting past this period intact. Hell, odds are good OP is living in the same country I am, and yeah, it is important to hope that no matter how many people do go along with their worst impulses in the face of a dictatorship, it's a thing that a country can heal from.

I didn't post for OP's benefit, otherwise I'd talk about B5 but it's not a bad faith anything. Your accusation looks like an attempt to stir drama. And so many countries live well with dictatorships. UAE, to name one. Do I have to think about OP's country? No, I don't care if they reside in Dubai. The secret is clearly about planetary developement, saying there's some dictator that affects the whole planet. Well, I agree. There's someone behind the scenes. Someone very rich who owns a lot of PR companies and Investement.

I think if it were ever possible for humanity to become “culturally advanced” in the way Star Trek portrays, then the “most culturally advanced country in Europe” wouldn’t have murdered six million Jews. If we ever make a utopia, or as close as we can get, we’ll be making it with people who aren’t any different on a fundamental level from Genghis Khan or Vlad the Impaler.

This country wasn't advanced at the time. It was poor after the WW1. Also it killed even more civilian Soviet people, then Jews in Europe. Looking at the Europe now I am not surprised. You don't even have to look at that far into the past, US prisons on subjugated countries, with all the thing that happened there. I think Guantanamo Bay is still going while Abu Ghraib and Bagram closed but I can be wrong.

Some countries and cultures can do it. Not Europe and US with but perhaps a more peaceful people like South Asians.

Someone has never heard of the Khmer Rouge, I see. Or the genocide against the Rohingya in Myanmar. Or what China has currently been doing to the Uighurs, or ... anything at all about Chinese history, really. Or the crimes of the Imperial Japanese Army.

Let alone the violence that occurred when the British territory of India was partitioned into India and Pakistan, or what's currently going on in India regarding non-Hindu people and Dalits. Modi is a full-on fascist.
