Things you Miss from Childhood

[personal profile] philstar22 2025-07-31 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there things from your childhood or child things in general that you miss?

Inspired by me thinking today how much I used to love swings and how fun it would be to be in one again if I wasn't a fat adult woman who would break it if I tried.

This is wild because just the other day I was thinking how much I'd love to play on a jungle gym again. My childhood one looked like this:

I was like "wow that was a great way to exercise" but ironically I'd break one, too, if I tried to use it for exercise. And/or break bones.

Along the same vein, I miss roller skating rinks.

Ooo, that looks fun. We had a huge playground at my otherwise terrible elementary school. There were giant swings that I loved to spend the entire recess on every day. I went back down there a few times in middle school and high school (it was all the same school).

Ha! I also went to a terrible elementary school with a big playground. It must have been spread over like 2-3 acres, in addition to the kickball field.

I work at an elementary school and I'm not even gonna lie, I sometimes go swing on the swings and go down on the slides after school and during my lunch break (my break is after afternoon recess). It's really fun.

I miss trampolines. I'd probably hurt myself on one at my age. I also miss Rice Krispies Treats and Kaboom cereal.

In terms of food, I miss cubed jello.

I made some rice krispies relatively recently, and I found out my wife had never had them before, so I made her try them and she doesn't like them.... if only I had known before we married! XD

I thought I was the only person who didn't like them! Hooray for your wife! (And it just means more for you!)

My dogs.
A bunch of different foods they don't make anymore.
Bike riding.
I've mentioned this before but two TV shows I loved as a kid that aren't on video at all, Tomfoolery and Curiosity Shop. I've only seen a few eps online of the former and one very blurry black and white ep of the latter on youtube.

Oh, I used to love swings as a child. I remember reading about some parks that had swings especially built for adults. Maybe I’ll see if there’s any around here or near my parents when I go visit. It’s been so long I don’t know if I’d still enjoy it or it might make me sick, but worth a shot.

Not having duties or responsibilities or bills. Swings.

My dad.

Climbing trees. It's rare to see a tree with sturdy enough branches to bear my weight now, that's on publicly accessible land AND low enough to the ground for me to reach.

Waking up from a good night's sleep feeling refreshed and excited to start the day. Similarly, falling asleep quickly and sleeping soundly all through the night.

Jello pudding pops.

Being relatively free of responsibilities.

Ooo I live literally two minutes away from the park, I might go on the swings just for kicks tomorrow morning

I miss not worrying about money and paying bills

I miss having time to talk to and hang out with my friends in my free time

I miss being able to eat anything I want without it affecting my stomach and body so much

I miss my ability to read books the same ways I did in my youth

I also just miss being a kid in the 1990s
