I hate when acquaintances and casual fandom friends push their streams and channels on me. I understand they're trying to make this a career but I don't owe them hours of my time any more than they owe me a purchase if I opened a store. If the content isn't interesting on its own merits they're not going to get far anyway...

My main hobby group has a strict rule against this sort of thing. It’s funny watching them get all upset about it and even funnier when active participants are allowed to link things. Active members know what will fly and what will sink. It’s the no effort “like and subscribe” drive bys that get deleted or trolled.

Unfortunately they have to for The Algorithm. A lot of the ones I've talked to hate having to plug that shit. But if you don't include it, you're punished by The Algorithm. :T If you want ANY eyes, you gotta play a bullshit game.

This seems unrelated? The secret isn't about saying like and subscribe in videos, it's about people pushing links at people who aren't even on the platform at all.

The thing that's painful about it all is how bad most of them can be.
Of course everybody has to start somewhere and that comes with mistakes, but there's so many that get into gameplays/streaming and being so bad at it. Not just the actual gameplay itself but their reactions or commentary to go alongside it that's either boring or too annoying to continue watching.

I think it's the misconception that gameplay is an easier way to make some money while forgetting that personality and presentation are major factors that get people interested in the first place. It doesn't have to be polished to perfection, but there's got to be more of a reason for people to watch these kinds of videos/streams than just a blank stare in the corner of the screen saying nothing for a good half hour.
