According to Halacha (Jewish law), you are only Jewish if your mother is Jewish. Your father (and his father and his father and his father and so on) could have been Jewish back to The Flood, but if your mother isn't Jewish, you're not.
And Reform Judaism is very nice, and identifying or not identifying as Jew is important -- but Halacha is, as someone else put it, the be all and end all, whether (as a Jew) you acknowledge/follow it or not.
What's ridiculous is that (as far as I remember), she never actually told Mr. Schuester that she was Jewish, which makes his observation of her Judaism a racist comment based on her nose and her name.
If she did mention it to him, we'd have to know what she's basing her definition of 'Jewish' on.

Honestly, if the only way that one could be a Jew was to have a Jewish mother, Judaism as a civilization would be doomed to die out pretty quickly.
