Nope, UNLESS they actually delve into and explore how the character/narrative as a whole would be different if the character in question was the opposite gender.

But they never do, so I hate them.

Yes! I don't like "suddenly character is [stereotypical characteristics of new gender]" and I don't like where they're exactly the same, either. I like it when it's thought out as to what would change, how and why.
