Aren’t all of them locked to proprietary apps? Kindle, Kobo, Libby, and Hoopla are the biggest ones and they’re all app/device locked.

DA You can buy some books as epub, especially if you buy from an independent online bookshop.

I don’t know what I was thinking because Kindle and Kobo aren’t device or app locked. And you can run them through Calibre and convert to any format. You still need something to read them but it doesn’t HAVE to be that company’s app or device. And both Kindle and Kobo devices support multiple formats. Libby and Hoopla are a bit different since they’re library loans but both have multiple ways to access the content.
