(Anonymous) 2025-08-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)I will admit to loving coffee shop AUs. I miss the coffee shops of the big city now that I’m rural, and I find coffee shop AUs comforting and comfortable.

Trope-wise, my big two are de-aging and crossovers where characters get saved/rescued. In both cases, I like the opportunity to read about characters getting some care and kindness they were denied in their childhoods or canon fates.
I don’t think there’s any AU premise I really like besides “what if” stories that change something relatively minor.

I’m not sure I’ve ever read one like that. Definitely read some where there’s serious angst about the character becoming an adult again or not, but I think they always end up back as an adult.
Do you have any recommendations? Any fandom or characters, I’m mainly curious about the story actually goes.

Thanks! These look interesting.
Re: What are your favorite major tropes and AUs?
For AUs, I love always an animal AUs crack fics. I also enjoy werewolf AUs and zombie AU horror stories.
Re: What are your favorite major tropes and AUs?
Hurt/Comfort. Emphasis on either, I love it all.
Villain/villain and hero/villain ships.
Redemption arcs when done right.
Also villain arcs of originally good characters turning evil.
AUs where one thing about canon/one canon event is changed and the fic author explores what might happen as a result.

I admit to not know a lot about the character (I mostly read Brienne/Jamie in that fandom, and also anything where Tyrion gets to be bad-ass).
Do you have a link to the AO3 page of these fics? I'd love to dip in a toe.

(Anonymous) 2025-08-12 04:07 am (UTC)(link)Other favorites include anything with cold weather survival-- whether it be the shippy huddling-for-warmth/sharing-a-sleeping-bag-to-avoid-hypothermia or more like... in depth long-term survival survival-- and amnesia fic.
For AUs, I am a fan of takes on omegaverse that aren't just like... 'what if we made one guy into a girl'-- it matters less to me what way an author tweaks it, I just think that it has SO much potential to be a genre that says gender essentialism isn't real, some men get pregnant and some women get people pregnant and that's normal, as well as all the different ways it can play with how that affects the social power structure and norms, so it's disappointing that so many end up being... well, gender essentialism repackaged, with characters completely defined by their role in babymaking.
