Thats so interesting and odd for me.

I generally don’t read fic for media I’m still reading/watching because I don’t want to get spoiled or confused about character development and growth. I really don’t want to get popular fanon mixed up with canon I just haven’t gotten to yet.

But I hate the feeling that the canonical version of the characters is slipping away from me. Both visually, but also personality-wise, since fic so often has an AU component or straight-up OOC moments. So I often reread/rewatch bits of the original story to keep them fresh in my mind.

And sometimes if I start reading fic before watching the source I get irrationally annoyed at what the people look like because they are not my brain version of them.

I'm sorry, but I've read this secret like five times and I still don't think I understand.

Reading or watching? If you're watching, then you already know what they look like, so why "idealized version in your head"? If you're reading, then... do you only read books that have no cover art and no character descriptions at all? And what does it matter that you're currently reading/watching them? And is fanfiction particularly focused on describing what the characters look like? The fics I'm reading don't, because we're all fans here, we know that. Finally, if you're reading a fanfic, then how are you seeing what they look like?

Does OP mean it in the way the first commenter said it? "I don't want to read fanfiction because the fic version of a character might overwrite the version of a character I have in my head"? OR PERHAPS "When I read fanfiction, I imagine the characters as my own imagined versions, and I don't see them as the characters from canon, because canon and fanfiction are two separate things in my head"?

Is this a language barrier in action or am I having a stroke...?

Yeah, I hated this. I know it's not the first time a writer has gone in that direction with the Els, but I've hated it in all of those other instances as well. The sacrifice and hard decision Jor and Lara had to make when they sent their baby out on his own to Earth doesn't hit when they sent him to conquer it.

This is kind of funny to me because when I saw the movie I just went "oh the engineer manipulated it and people on earth can't tell because her / Lex Luthor's technology is that advanced". (I mean. Wouldn't it be so heavily damaged/restored also be considered editing? It's not like it's a pristine original no matter how you slice it.) So yeah it sucked that Superman's faith in his birth parents was shaken but I just figured that it was an editing thing, especially once the ending just casually tosses his cousin in (did she not get her own instructions, or were they ALSO damaged/destroyed?)

So finding out via this secret that that's apparently supposed to be what his parents ACTUALLY said is just. lmfao. that's stupid. but a lot of things about the movie were kind of dumb. a fun watch though.

I am a million years behind everyone else so only saw this film yesterday and this is the one part I'm not sure about. Loved the rest. Just wasn't sure about this. I mean...I like that Clark's faith in the first half of the message and Ma and Pa Kent meant that he wasn't ever going to agree with the apparent second half of the message. The rest of the film was so hopeful and lovely when it came to Superman's love for being among humans but... yeah I know the comics play around with this concept too, I just don't think it's for me.

I thought it might have been manipulated by Luthor too but I'm stunned to learn no, it's real and we were meant to see it as real!
