Bathroom lightswitches

When you encounter a bathroom with the lightswitch on the outside of the room, do you ever just want to turn it off while someone is in there and leave it off?

I tried a couple of times as a child, but only flickered it. I did get a 'HEY' from the person inside, though.

ahaha no that would not have occurred to me. But now I'm going to be paranoid about it happening when I'm in the bathroom! (mostly joking)

Hm, I wonder if this is a thing that only exists in certain countries or regions because I've never been anywhere where the bathroom lightswitch is outside of the bathroom. I never would've thought about turning it off while someone was inside because I've always been afraid of breaking any "rules", but I probably would've been afraid of someone turning it off while I was inside!

It's really common in the Boston, Massachusetts area and surrounding suburbs. Not sure where else.

ayrt

Ah, okay. I'm in the south, and the northeast is the one part of the country I've never really traveled to, so that makes sense.

US west coast and I've never encountered light switches outside the bathroom. I'm grateful because I would have had family members constantly turning the lights off for shits and giggles

I've encountered it in the south. My sisters upstairs bathroom has the switch in the hallway and she is in the south. I think it is just one of those weird things you've somehow managed to avoid even though it is fairly common. We all have little things like that.

I have one of those. Sometimes I'll be in there and my wife will think I just left the light on and turn it off and I have to do the HEY thing.

Yes, a bit :D
Also at my flat there are different rooms for bath and toilet with outside switches. So the amount of times someone switched off is astonishing
